Caring for Combination to Oily Skin

Combination skin is characterized by normal to dry skin with even pores in the area of the cheeks, and oily skin with medium pores in the area of the forehead, nose, and chin also known as the T-zone. The T-zone may begin to appear shiny within a couple of hours of cleansing. Blemishes are more apt to appear in the T-zone due to the buildup of oil that blocks the pores. Fine lines and wrinkles are more apt to appear in the dry areas on the cheeks.

A cleanser formulated to be gentle enough to cleanse the dry cheek area without causing excess dryness, yet strong enough to remove excess moisture from the T-zone should be used. A toner will also help to remove excess oil and refresh the skin in the T-zone as well as balance pH levels.

Concentrating an oil-free moisturizer in the dry area and applying a thin layer in the T-zone area will balance the moisture levels and provide an evenly moisturized surface for application of your foundation, powder, and cheek color. Oil blotters and/or mattifiers will help control the shine throughout the day or evening without smudging your makeup in your attempts to wipe away excess oil. Oil-free and/or non-comedogenic products are recommended for removal of eye makeup because they are less likely to clog pores in the T-zone.
